Wadi el Seboua, Egypt
This morning, disembark for a walk through the Valley of the Lions, lined with sphinxes. Then, tour the Temple of Dakka, dedicated to the
ibis-headed Thoth, and the Greco-Roman Temple of Meharakka, both located at the Wadi el Seboua Temple Complex. Return aboard for lunch and
dinner as we sail toward Aswan. This evening, enjoy a Nubian show featuring traditional music, dance and costumes. (B, L, D)

Into the Valley of the Lions
Explore three adjacent temples with Egyptian, Ethiopian and Roman origins. You will accompany your guide to Wadi el Seboua, Arabic for “Valley of the Lions.”
Built by Setau, the Nubian Viceroy of Kush, the temple honored Ramses II in the later part of his reign and was dedicated to the gods Amun and Re-Horakhty.
During the Christian period, some of its chambers were used as churches and some walls were covered with plaster to hide the original polytheistic carvings.
Upon approach, you will walk along an avenue, passing between the sphinxes that guard the temple. Inside, marvel at wall paintings as old as 3,000 years,
surprisingly vibrant still. After, walk 20 minutes to the Temple of Dakka, or ride a camel or tractor at an additional cost. This narrow temple was begun by an
Ethiopian king, dedicated to the ibis-headed god Thoth. Continue to the nearby Greco-Roman Temple of Meharakka.

The small structure, dating from Roman times, is the only Nubian temple that contains a spiral staircase.
